2004 tasting notes at bottling Made in a northern Rhone style, this wine has lots of sweet plum and blackberry fruit with spice and tobacco notes on the nose. Sweet oak on the palate with dark berry flavours and a spicy finish. Good acidity and a comfortable presenceof tannin, carry the flavours to a long finish. total production: 140 cases estimated cellaring: 5 to 7 years |
3.5 out of 5 stars "This is the debut Syrah from a serious-minded producer that doesn't adopt new varietals without serious consideration. Lailey's enjoyable Syrah is nicely spiced and points out the promise of this grape variety in the region, particularly when the winemaking design is Old World depth and structure as opposed to the jammy Australian model. Ten months in French oak has helped focus the red fruit flavours and mellow the bright acidity that is a signature of the 2003 vintage." Chris Waters, The Standard. January 22, 2005 |
