Sour cherry, smoky bacon and spice on the nose. The palate shows lots of red fruit flavours - sour cherry, raspberry and dried cranberry. There is a good, balanced acidity and the tannins are soft. Spice and vanilla arrive on the finish. This wine has very good length.
…appears simple at first but at some stage into the bottle you'll experience the elusive, engaging quality that makes this red grape so appealing. Has delicious berry flavours and freshness for summer drinking. You'll need a second bottle for sure. Grill the food and chill the wine.
Bill Munnelly, Billy's Best Bottles. Spring 2002

This is an eye-opener. Lailey's Pinot shows how this unique grape can be light in body, but pack a tremendous wallop. Imagine the thin geek from those Charles Atlas ads in old comic books knocking the tar out of the beefcake dude who dared kick sand in his face. It's smoky and meaty, with positive mixed berry flavours and a lush texture.

Tony Aspler, The Wine Guy (www.tonyaspler.com) Feb. 14, 2003

A very pleasant Pinot Noir that needs another year in the bottle. The nose is shy at the moment but shows good berry-cherry ripeness with a vanilla, spice overlay from the barrels. Bit of camp fire smoke in there to0. It is mid-weight, supple and rounded initially and then dries to a slightly bitter and tannic finish. Best late 2004 to 2007. Rating:87
David Lawrason, First in Line, Wine Access. Mar. 8, 2003

Ontario takes a bow with Lailey Vineyard Pinot Noir, a mellow, well-extracted pinot with bing cherry and strawberry charm.
Gordon Stimmell, The Toronto Star. Mar. 8, 2003

Medium ruby colour with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, earth and barnyard. Dry, crisp, surrounded by pleasing soft fruit. Light to medium-bodied with a lingering crisp/fruit finish.
Vintages. Mar.8, 2003

…a wonderful pure Pinot that's more about fruit flavour than oak. Lightish for sure, but charming and sure to please when the mood is lively. A local hero for sure.
Billy Munnelly, Billy's Best Bottles Spring 2003

2003 tasting notes at bottling

A rich Pinot Noirw with red berry fruit, vanilla and spice on the nose with delicate floral notes. The aromas are reflected on the palate which also shows chocolate and sweet cherry. This wine is intense with firm tannins and good acidity.

total production: 100 cases
estimated cellaring: 5 to 7 years
Lailey Vineyard's newly released Pinot Noir delivers a cherry/berry-like fragrance and a flavour that gains interest from some intriguing floral notes. The palate is tightly wound, which is common at this early stage of development. Past vintages have plumped up nicely in the bottle to reveal more fruit and fleshy texture on the palate. This is a wine to cellar and then savour with, say, salmon served with wild rice and earthy mushrooms or baked vegetable and cheese dishes.
