2003 tasting notes at bottling

A full-bodied wine with intense sweet dark fruits, spice, smoke and leather notes. The wine is rich and soft on the palate with a perceived sweetness that makes this wine drinkable now but with the ability to age over the next few years.

total production: 175 cases
estimated cellaring: a fruit forward, food friendly wine from 2 to 4 years, this wine becomes delightfully earthy, leathery and spicy with age of up to 10 years

Striking a balance with the purple beast is the key to a successful Foch. Winemaker Derek Barnett has managed to keep this fine 2003 in check. Notes include tobacco leaf and black cassis. There's a hint of sweet fruit making this a juicy, plush red with excellent intensity. with a core of racy acidity without the tannin constraints, it's a lighter styled Foch ideal for spicy red meat dishes - think Cajun.
VINES Buyer's Guide to Canadian Wine. Fourth Edition. 2005
This wine is developing leathery, spicy notes already and the fruit is very soft. It has lost its acidic edge and has become a great summer season red that doesn't ask you to think too hard.
